DR. LAETITIA KING, Chief Academic Officer, Aga Khan University, East Africa
Dr. Laetitia King was appointed as the Firoz Kassam Professor and Associate Dean, Nursing of the Aga Khan University Advanced Nursing Studies Programme (East Africa) in June 2003. In May 2005 she was appointed as the first Chief Academic Officer of Aga Khan University in East Africa. She is a Doctor of Literature and Philosophy from the University of South Africa, where she also headed the Department of Health Studies, as well as the WHO Collaborating Centre for Post-graduate Distance Education and Research for Nursing and Midwifery Development before joining Aga Khan University. Dr. King has served as a temporary advisor for WHO in Geneva as well as at the AFRO office and numerous other international organizations in the fields of nursing and midwifery development, public health, and health services management. Her areas of specific academic interest and expertise include nursing and midwifery education through distance learning, the development of human resources for health from a multi-disciplinary perspective as well as community participation in health care delivery. She serves as a Board Member of the South African Medical Research Council and continues to be involved in a number of international research projects related interalia to HIV/AIDS. Prof King is the author of numerous publications and also serves on the editorial Board of the following journals: Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem published by the University of Sao Paulo; the International Nursing Review which is the official Journal of the International Council of Nurses; the Africa Journal of Nursing and Midwifery,which is published by the UNISA WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing and Midwifery Development; and the Kenya Nursing Journal.
