THERESE LETHU, Director, GBC Europe (Global Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS)
As director of the European Office, Therese Lethu is responsible for broadening the GBC's European participation, raising the organization's European visibility, and offering technical support to companies addressing HIV/AIDS in the workplace and in the surrounding communities. An economist, Therese has 20 years of experience working on public health issues in developing countries and particularly in Africa. Therese previously served as a consultant to several French companies, advising businesses and organizing working groups on topics ranging from HIV/AIDS treatment to financing health systems. Prior to joining the GBC, Therese managed the working group on HIV/AIDS for the French Council of Investors in Africa (Conseil Francais des Investisseurs en Afrique) between 2001 and 2003.
She also served as a consultant to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she was in charge of research on public-private partnerships. Therese advised the Ministry on establishing a series of national guidelines regarding private sector collaboration.
In 1986, Therese founded the magazine, Afrique Medicine et Santé. As editor-in-chief for over a decade, she covered HIV/AIDS initiatives and policies on both local and global levels. Therese holds a PhD in economics and international finance from the University Paris Sorbonne.
